Welcome to Mrs. Cruce's classroom ELA page!

Tutorial Times:  Mondays-Fridays 7:30am, Wednesdays 3:40pm until 4:30pm, and other afternoons on request.
I would like to welcome my new students to the class.  We will pick right up where we should be at this point in the year.  If you have a question or a need, please don't hesitate to talk to me so we can achieve your full potential this year.  Parents can contact me through Remind or via email at
We are currently working on expository writing in 7th grade and inferring and drawing conclusions in 8th.
What steps should a student take prior to starting a first draft for an essay? How should an introduction be tackled? What does a quality thesis statement/controlling idea look like? How do we set up the organization structure for a body paragraph?
How do we infer on a daily and moment-by-moment basis in the real world?  How can we apply those skills to our reading in order to draw more from what we are reading than just the words on the page?
For grammar, we are reviewing skills taught earlier. We will be testing over these skills weekly, so be sure you know them well.
For extra practice at home, students have access to individualized lessons on Study Island.  Go to and login.
Classroom Needs:  I am in desperate need of pencils.  We have gone through 1,000 of my pencils since school started. If you make a trip to the store, please consider grabbing a package and sending it to school with your child.
CONGRATULATIONS to Graci Weston on winning 2nd place in district UIL for editorial writing. Way to go!
